“I make documentaries, art, and everything in between. I love complexity and resist the obvious, the simple, and the unobscure. Some days I prefer fragments, other days I favour wholeness. I aim for comprehension, but I’ll settle for interpretation.”

About/Contact

Linn Obrestad is a multidisciplinary artist working across experimental film, visual art, and poetic documentary. Drawing on a background in fine art, biotechnology, anthropology, programming, and cultural studies, she works with a research-led and field-responsive approach. Her practice is informed by complexity-sensitive artivism, a working methodology she has developed with Hilde Iren Dølheim for engaging with complex issues through layered narratives, situated inquiry, material thinking, and hybrid forms of sense-making

Her ongoing project Extractions Forward examines the cultural, ecological, and psychological impacts of resource extraction through long-term, collaborative, and research-driven processes. Her work has been presented internationally in film festivals, exhibitions, galleries, and cross-disciplinary platforms, where art, ecology, and science converge in dialogue.
